About Us

Ya-Lan Co., Ltd is the distributor and agent for the exclusive green tea retail chain 50 Lan in the central part of Taiwan. Heading Ya-Lan Co., Ltd is Avon-Ma, who has now developed her own brand of beverages, marketed and sold in Koi Café. With 50 Lan leading the market in hand-shaken tea beverages, the use of its proven products in Koi Café ensures the recognition and support of the crowd in Taiwan.

True to the spirit of 50 Lan’s product excellence, Avon-Ma created the brand Koi Café in 2006. In 2008, she personally established Koi Café Group(s) Pte Ltd in the thriving estate of Singapore’s Toa Payoh. Not only was Avon-Ma able to keep her set-up cost low by importing the bulk of the materials from Taiwan, she also successfully introduced the authentic flavour of Taiwan’s famous Milk Tea with Pearls to those in Singapore. Since then, Koi Café has seen burgeoning growth, and in the space of 3 years, it has grown to 8 stores in various parts of Singapore.

KOI’s Exclusives

Taiwan’s famed teas can be found in the regions of Alishan, Lishan and Nantou, which are exceptionally rich in natural resources. Teas grown on these high mountains grow slowly due to the great disparity between the day and night temperatures, as well as their extended exposure to the afternoon mist. These conditions result in the production of thick, soft yet bouncy tea leaves high in pectin.

The Koi teas can be categorized under the following fermentation levels:

  • Jasmine Green Tea—Unfermented tea
  • Assam Red Tea—Fully fermented tea
  • Alpine Oolong Tea—Half fermented tea

They are rated according to their levels of oxidization for materials high in phenol; in fermentation (8-60%) as well as levels of purification through fire.

Taiwan speciality—The Pretty Sisters of Koi—Aiyu and Grass Jelly

As the king of pectin among its fruit contemporaries, aiyu is able to lower cholesterol levels and prevent heart diseases by balancing blood sugar levels by controlling its rise and fall.

A product of Alishan, aiyu is processed by hand—the aiyu seeds are packed into a bag which is sealed and placed into a container of cold water, where they are then gently hand massaged to squeeze out the pectin. After 7-10 minutes, the water and pectin congeal to produce the well-loved aiyu.

Besides possessing anti-oxidization and anti-carcinogenic powers, grass jelly extract has also been scientifically proven to produce results against effects of saltation tests. One of Koi’s specialities: Iced grass jelly milk is made by boiling the concentrate of grass jelly with red sugar and tapioca flour specially imported from Japan, then chilling the mixture.
